I went to my nephew’s wedding last weekend in Florida. Most of my family was there including my 2 daughters and a new boyfriend of one. So you think, well this wedding will be nice, a lot of planning went into it by the parents of the bride who happens to be a bit of a hero in this small town. He is a restaurant owner in a one stoplight town in North Florida who is generous with his time and money. Anywho, you would expect your nephew’s wedding to the town hero’s daughter to be lovely - beautiful dress, nice church service, fabulous food, great reception…and, low and behold, it was. It was so nice it was darn near perfect. I’ve not seen such a happy couple who looked relatively stress free – especially a new bride! who knew a bride could have fun at the service AND the reception. Postively glowing. You could actually see the love pouring out of them. It was inspirational. So inspirational in fact that I decided to be joyous and dance. Dance at a wedding like a, well, like a lunatic I guess is what you would call it.
I was a joyous lunatic though! I danced for two hours straight. My normally subdued family who would usually sit at a table and just watch were intermittantly joining me on the floor to sway and boogie down. It was so much fun! Everyone, even my mortified kids finally got on the dance floor and started a conga line. One of my visiting nephews posted on his facebook status the next day, “Danced for the first time ever!” Wow – a 19 yr old kid who had never danced before. I was so happy to know that I live my life participating and encouraging others to let their hair down and to let their freak flag fly! And when they played “Joy to the World” near the end of the reception, EVERYONE got up and sang! At least that’s what it felt like to me.
Needless to say, it was the best time I’ve had at a wedding in a long time. But that’s only because I haven’t been to a wedding in a long time…I always act a fool on the dance floor!
Enjoy your life people!!!
Peace!
