”Combining elements of surfing, skateboarding and skiing, snowboard — one of the fastest growing sports — is a recent addition to the Olympic Winter Games.

The first official snowboard competition was held in Colorado in 1981.

Two snowboard events were introduced at the Nagano 1998 Winter Games — halfpipe and individual giant slalom. Parallel giant slalom replaced individual giant slalom at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games and snowboard cross was introduced in 2006, at the Torino Olympic Winter Games.”

There is no stopping Shaun White! I bet he has at least 3 more Winter Olympics in his future where he will still take the gold. Now if they would just make a halfpipe event for the Summer Olympics!

Shaun White is the Tony Hawk of snowboards. Godt, he’s basically almost the new Tony Hawk of skateboarding as well. I went to a Tony Hawk show about 8 years ago, and Shaun White was one of the guest skaters. My friends and I were able to meet Shaun after the show, and he was as down to earth as could be. I can’t wait to see him wearing gold around his neck 2 weeks from now! =)
